Any fishing tips for a lake with murky water?

got any tips, i’m starting to fish at a new alke that is very muddy, and murky water. you cant see anything in the water. i’m aiming to catch catfish, i caught one at the lake using a Magic worm nightcrawler. any uggestions on good baits, preferrably not live
Chicken Livers, Nightcrawlers are my favorites. Punch holes in a coffee can and put some stink bait inside along with a few rocks, tie a line to the can and toss it in the lake (so you can retrieve it of course and move it if you desire later). Use a bobber on your line and fish near the can. The scent will draw in the catfish. Always check your state regulations before attempting this. Liver is a good bait for more reasons then most people understand, the high iron content stimulates catfish to eat or feed…. thus making them more prone to strike your hook…I’ve proved this theory to biologist who didn’t believe me. It’s a very good technique for mud holes….
Are you fishing from the bank or a boat ? Day or Night time ? Do you know how deep it is? Or if there is a cut ( channel ) running through it. You really don’t want to fish any deeper than 15-20 feet. If you can find a run out where the water is mixing that will be your best bet if its 5-10 feet deep. as far as non live bait. Catfish Charlie dough baits work well ( stink bait ) you can also use corn , hot dogs , chicken liver works well ( get an old pair of stockings and put a piece of liver in it and tie it off and impale it on your hook the nylon will hold onto your hook very well and you wont be slinging your bait off with every cast.) Or you can go buy some shrimp at a supermarket the small works well and dip them into the stink bait and gently cast it out and wait. You may want to vary how deep your bait is. try using a cork ( bobber ) 3-6 feet or tight lining until you find what works the best.
In murky water, I would focus on using any bright-colored bait that gives off a strong scent to make it easier for bottom-feeding fish to notice. Corn, cheddar cheese, cornmeal dough, or any kind of dough that’s been flavored with something really sweet or spicy (i.e. vanilla extract, anise extract, corn syrup, curry, garlic, etc.) and tinted yellow with food coloring. You can also use simple bread balls dipped in one of the aforementioned ingredients. One of my favorites for carp and catfish is potato bread (which is naturally yellow) dipped in cheap maple syrup (which is actually mainly corn syrup) mixed with vanilla extract.
I like Logic’s answer because it is mainly what I do.I prefer the cheapest and simplest ingredients.While chicken livers work well I’d do without the mess unless nothing else was working well.Your best bet,try everything you hear at the same time on a different day and go with what brings you the best luck at that particular lake.
