I really like the Strike King Denny Brauer bass jigs best of all. Why not get pro jigging tips from the man that created that jig. His website has just about all you need to know about where and how to fish jigs for bass.
Here is a link to his website:

and more tips from him are here:

Here is another site that has some fantastic jigs (and other tackle too) for a very decent price:

i am guessing yuo have not fished bass a whole lot, since yuo are asking about jig heads. therefore, i will give you the following advice, on how to catch HUGE bass!! both smallmouth, and largemouth!! since i have used these methods, i have caught a fish nearly every time!!

forget about jig head. they have to have the correct skirt, and you have to bump them off the bottom at the correct intervals to be effective.

i have had little luck with both them, and artificial fish lures. (minnow resemblance).

then i tried soft plastic worms, and WHAM!! my first big bass ever, was a 17″largemouth. it took off and all i heard was line being pulled off the spool, and my drag going ZZZZZZZZZZ.

i was so excited,i vowed not to let that fish get away. my pole looked like it was ready to snap in half!!

after 3 minutes, i had him in!! and boy i was thrilled!! since then,i have caught many more using the same methods.

the first brand i tried, was PICASSO. they say on the pack”difference between fishing, and catching fish” i caught 4 bass with one pack of worms. the store that sold them, went out of business, and the next brand, didnt work at all.

i asked a helpful fellow fisherman at a WAL-MART,and he suggested KINAMI,by yamamoto.

i got the red/black texture, and also,a pack of green/watermelon color in the brand WAVE WORMS.

i caught very large largemouths with the rd/black! on the second cast!!

these work FAR FAR better than live nightcrawlers. i do not fish live bait anymore!!

no need!! pro fisherman use these!!

i do NOT use any sinkers at all!! i use the “wacky rig” method!! which means hook the worm half way, usually they have a portion of the worm body that looks different. run the hook through, and out the same side!!

fish slow water, not rapids!! it should be about 6-12 feet deep ideally. you can fish from shore, boats are not necessary!!

little creeks are not good, but lakes and ponds, and rivers!! and canals!!!

the area should have rocky shores, and bottoms, with algae, and seaweed. this is bass habitat!! also…they hunker down around fallen logs, because it makes them feel safe.

cast in,and let the worm sink on its own.count maybe 2 seconds. then…”twitch” your pole tip. that means wiggle your pole, holding handle firmly, but making the end “twitch” this makes the worm wiggle.

do it for a few seconds, then allow it to sink again, then try pulling your pole from in front of you,to the right side,in maybe a 3 foot arc.

allow the worm to sink again, because when you move the pole,it starts to surface. the bass follow it,and take it as it falls.

i know it sounds confusing, it isnt!! once you get your first bites, you will understand what makes them bite!!

once you catch your first bass!(only big ones go for these worms!!) you will say “heck with jig heads!!)

the WAVE WORM in watermelon green/black is infused with “molopo” a powerful fish attractant. they bite!!!

also…when you feel them biting,it could be a small fish, how to tell…is pause a little, when they first start, they scare easy.

then…twitch a hair. you should feel a powerful tug, which means the fish thinks the worm is trying to get away.it will pull harder.

after several pulls,i mean good pulls, not nibbles,”set the hook” this is done by pulling stright up,and hard!!

then you should see the line trying to swim away!! and continue reeling. oh by the way…each time you “sweep” your pole in acrs, remember…SLOW sweeps from the front of you,to the indirect side…reel in the slack slow!!

there…a little practice, and you will be catching fish like a pro!!

i would recommend WAVE WORM brand. KINAMI,and PICASSO,preferably with salt and garlic flavor.

YUMS

i havent tried berkely…but my friend did and caught zero fish.

i ALWAYS catch fish!!! BIG BIG BASS THAT PULL like h-e- double toothpicks!

tell me how you did!! the worms range from 3-5 dollars for anywhere between 7 to 10 worms. they stay fresh for ever!! keep the pack sealed when not in use!!

i use a size “6″ hook with them. there are other ways to fish these worms…but…i just go without a sinker, and let them fall on their own.

natural brown colors work well, but so do the ones i described.

tell me how you did!! and any questions, just ask!! once you get the hang of this…you wont want to fish any other way!! it is FUN FUN FUN!!!

look for the fat gitzit brand of tube lures and jigheads(they have a unique shape that lets them fall differently), they work fantastic dragged across the bottom when the bass are suspended deep in weed beds or underwater points

Listen to Exert-7′. He knows what he’s talking about.

Joel- Soft plastic’s do work well. Jigs also have their place in fishing too. As do Rapala-type “hard-plastic’s”, spinnerbaits, topwaters, swim-baits, Etc.

powebait texas-rigged worms work the best
