Blacklug as Bait
By
Few people who provide their own black lugworm these days dig for it, preferring instead to use a pump because they see it as faster and more efficient. This short piece of archive film shows how quickly an expert digger can get black lugworm out of the sand.

Very possible for even a newbie to pump lug as fast as this video. You’ll need a long spring tide, the tide just turning and a hot summers day or evening (in the SE) where the water is moving over hot sand.
The spring? allows you to access larger lug which have not been pumped as much and the warmth of the sand causes them to be near the surface!
In the winter???

*when he says some days refuse to cast or the rain washes them away.
Also if there is a strong tide or windy conditions churning up the bottom of the sea when shallow, this also wipes away most casts and you have to look for mounds as opposed to casts.

Cheers
I dig black lug which seem to be shorter and fatter than the blow lug I dig in the Channel Islands.
I am fascinated by this, because I was told cutting the worm kills it and the blood infects the others you have dug and kills them in turn.
I always stick my fork in about half a foot back from the half way point between the hole and the cast, then I really carefully dig the whole.
This guy makes my technique look a bit pedestrian.

@ ASwordandAKey…
you dig under and alongside the exit whole of the worm, cutting off the route down, and taking it as it retreats.
ignore the moronic reply.

Surely they cut up the worm digging at that pace??
