Bow fishing in Texas now requires fishing license?

By

Question by psychoninja911: Bow fishing in Texas now requires fishing license?
My mom’s husband told me the other day he saw someone being harassed by the game warden for bow fishing without a license.

Though, the game warden (about a year or so ago) would walk right by me when I used to bow fish without asking any questions.

My mom’s boyfriend said that the law on it is: “If your bow has a reel, then it requires a license. But if it has a regular spool that you have to manually roll back up, you might not need a license”

Any truth in this? What is the current law on bow fishing in Texas?

I thought it didn’t matter as long as I didn’t shoot game fish or catfish.

Sorry, I live in Ohio where it does require a fishing license. But when it comes to fish and game it is always best to be very sure of regulations. Go to the Texas Dept. of Natural Resources or its equivalent, division of wildlife website and they should have all the info you need. Also, anyplace that sells fishing licenses should have a booklet of regulations for free. Don’t take other people’s speculation about questions like this. It is best to know the law in your state.-Peace and respect-Rhythmatist
