Can an adult develop a stutter?

By

Question by Y: Can an adult develop a stutter?
My boyfriend, who is 27, is a stutterer. It affects almost every aspect of his life, and he is very bothered by it, although I don’t mind at all.

We obviously hang out together a lot, and now, it seems, I am developing a stutter, too. Only in certain situations, like if I’m nervous, but I’m exhibiting classic signs — blocking, repeating sounds, etc.

Should I be worried, or will this probably pass?

That may be happening from a slight chance of you not reading and writing as much as you use to. But more then likely it’s just you picking up habit’s don’t let it bother you. Because it may affect you guys friendship. And that’s the last this you want to do.

Yes you can develop a stutter. I have one now after being sick but it only shows up when I am asked a question under stress. Slow down and take a deep breath when stressed this should help you out!
