Can starting vegetarianism at a young age cause death at an early age as well?
ByI’m 15, and I’ve been a vegetarian for a year now, but my mom recently read something online about starting vegetarianism at a young age and its effects including the chances of dying at a young age. Now she’s forcing me to at least eat seafood. She’s convinced that my having a vegetarian diet might be harmfully risky for my health, but I’ve been crying for the past three days because I can’t even bear the thought of eating meat again, even if it’s just fish. She insists I start eating fish next week, but I see no point in becoming pescetarian if I’m against animal cruelty.
Is there any proof that vegetarianism does not = death at young age that I can show my mom? Please cite whatever sources you have such as websites or magazines.

Ok, I’m from India where 75% of our population is completely vegetarian. no egg no meat nothing.I think its an amazing thing that you want to be vegetarian for animal rights and NO, it does not cause early deaths. India’s the land of yoga meditation and enlightenment and cummon…Buddha was a total vegetarian. It has absolutely nothing to do with life expectancy and to be honest I think those statistics might be incorrect…if you eat healthy vegetarian food you an get as many nutrients as non vegetarian food.
Vegetarian food is believed to have very little protein in the west…but to be honest since there’s hardly anyone there who actually is vegetarian how would they know. Eat pulses (we call it daal in India) sprouts and other leguminous plants PACKED with protein. Don’t just stick to the tofu. Other than than being vegetarian is actually healthier because it gives you the RIGHT kinds of fats and vitamins and minerals which we sometimes don’t get because we tend to ignore the veggies when we’re eating meat. too much meat can actually lead to heart problems and clogs the arteries
Oh an read this article…it says vegetarians live longer.
good luck!
