8.2L MerCruiser

This engine has been the #1 most troublesome engine for boat repair shops. Parts are obsolete for everything on it, and the original 8.2L longblock is not much to speak of either strait from GM’s marine division. Once the kinks are worked out (new valve stem seals, etc.) the engine is a pure power plant. The biggest issue we had with this customers’ engine was the corroded terminals in the fuel injection wire harness. Corroded connections from salt water use lead to multiple fault codes which can drive someone insane. Using multimeter probes to test wiring usually leads to inaccurate test results because you are using the probe to scrape away corrosion on the wire terminals. Once a wire connector is reconnected to a sensor like, the MAP sensor, its nearly impossible to tell if the connection is good without just replacing the entire connector! Moral of this engine story…. Salt water engines are a NIGHTMARE. everything….and i mean EVERYTHING is eaten up by corrosion. Myself and another mechanic at our shop spent countless unbilled hours figuring out each and every circut to the engine ECM to run the fuel injection system properly. This video is after it was gone through 100% and operating properly.
