Pictus catfish question?
Posted by: | CommentsOkay so I’m upgrading very soon to a 15 gallon long tank, but for now im in a TEMPORARY 5.5 gallon tank, I have…
2 pictus catfish
4 tiger barbs
1 african dwarf frog
They have been doing fine for over a month, water is crystal clear, everyone seems happy…
My question is, because the 2 pictus cats and the frog are bottom dwellers and the pictus’ are known to eat things smaller than them, will the catfish attack or eat the frog? I know they wont eat the barbs because they’re too big.
Thanks!
Catfish in ten gallon tank?
Posted by: | CommentsSo my children were given a ten gallon tank along with a few fish (thanks a lot Auntie G) that I found out would end up being way too big for the tank. I found a person willing to adopt those fish, but now have to figure out what to buy to replace them. I’ve been looking at old questions here to see what has been recommended before.
My son really wants some kind of a catfish. I’ve seen in a lot of previous answers that people say it’s ok to have two cory cats in a ten gallon tank. But when I look them up on websites for more information, I’m finding they say a thirty gallon minimum. What’s the deal? Is there a kind of catfish I can put in this small tank?
eta: She gave us a couple of clown loaches – I’m sure of those. The others were I think a couple of black angelfish. They’ve gone to a 55 gallon home nearby.
Thank you for all the great answers. I really appreciate it the help.

What should I do about my ever-growing catfish?
Posted by: | CommentsI recently bought a catfish by mistake from my stupid local pet shop, who sold it to me as a Corydora. To be honest, despite keeping fish for almost 10 years, I didn’t really notice that it wasn’t a Cory!
Well, anyway, it’s now about 15 – 18cm long and still growing! It’s the biggest fish in my 54L tank, and I’m not sure what kind it is or therefore how big it will get.
I have 1 Red-tailed shark, 4 Corys, 2 Mollies, and a few Tetras and Guppies; all relatively small fish, the closest one in size to the Catfish is the male Molly which it has now started annoying during feeding time. I have noticed the Molly hiding a lot more, which is frustrating as it’s so beautiful! During the day the Catfish sleeps under the log I bought for it.
Anyway, I just need some advice as I have grown attached to the Catfish now and don’t want to get rid of it, however I know it might be whats best. Maybe I need a bigger tank? Help please!!
Sorry for long question, I just wanted to get across all facts!
it’s quite difficult to take a picture of him because he hides under the log constantly! He kind of looks like these ones:

Except he has really long whiskers, and those ones don’t.
My actual question was what to do with the Catfish, but I guess I can’t know that until I know what type he is.
Thanks for all your answers so far.

twig catfish might be pregnant? she really looks it! ?
Posted by: | CommentsOkay so about a week ago I bought myself two twig catfish at Jacks. (it was to help the tank out) anyways so I noticed one of them isn’t really into sucking the tank. I mean she has but not as much as the other one…I thought maybe she was sick or something? But today I was sitting in front of the tank and she really has gotten big…could she be pregnant? The other two seemed to always be by each other and the sort so I don’t know if she is or isn’t. If so what should I do to make sure the eggs are okay?
She seems kind of lazy and just been hanging around the bottom and by this shark thing we have in the tank which is by our plant.
They each share a tank with an Oscar and two other fish along with a bottom feeder.
I also have another tank filled with few goldfish.
Advice please?
Here are pictures of where she is bigger…the circle area is what is bigger now.
The picture isn’t of MY fish. Same type of fish just not mine. I can’t get good pictures of them
Thanks,
Megan
Why won’t my Tiger Shovelnose Catfish eat?
Posted by: | CommentsI got a baby Tiger Shovelnose Catfish about a week ago, and I don’t know if it has been eating. For now, until it gets big enough to go in my big tank with big fish I just have it in a 10 gal. tank with my two 2 inch peacock bass. The catfish is about the same size. I’ve just been feeding them bloodworms, and occasionally krill. Since I’ve gotten them I haven’t seen the catfish eat anything. I don’t know if he’s just shy, and won’t eat in front of me, or what the deal is. Or am I feeding him the wrong stuff?
This is a tiger shovelnose catfish, not a pleco. They don’t eat algae. They are carnivorous. Where do you people get your information from. If there’s anyone out there that has had experience with this specific type of catfish can you please help. I know for a fact that these catfish don’t eat algae.
Big Growing Fish, Small Tank?
Posted by: | CommentsMy girlfriend came home with four unexpected pet store finds: catfish. They were from Petsmart and I don’t know the breed or anything, but I seem to recall they get big. They are currently an inch long, and the tank is small. Will they stay that size? If not, how soon until they need something larger?
what is the best octopus circle hook size for catfish?
Posted by: | Commentsok, i herd circle hooks work great so i thought about switching, i been using snelled hooks size 4/0 or u can say j style hooks, so which size of circle hooks is about the same size as the snelled hook size 4/0(j style)? catfish around my pond are around 2-5 pounds, not so big. i know, im only 15 but still alot to learn, its also because im buying it on amazon, so i cant actually see it in real life, so i need suggestions. i saw size 4/0 in a video of circle hooks, and they look way to big. i saw a size 6, and it looks good, but i need more opinions, thx for all answers!
Are catfish known to hit lures?
Posted by: | CommentsJust wondering as I was bass fishing at a local pond yesterday. (Pensylvania). I was using a jigheaded Mister Twister. I hooked into a big fish. I wasn’t sure how big it was at first. I then got a pretty good feel of the fish and it started taking drag out. It then felt pretty big! I got it up to surface and got a quit glimpse of it before it spit the hook. All I pretty much saw was the top of the fish. My friend’s son also said the dorsal fin looked kind of strange. At first we thought it was a big bass, but I thought it looked kind of brown. My friend’s son said the same thing as he saw it briefly too. It looked kind of brown and maybe kind of longer and a liitle sleeker than a Largemouth. Maybe their are catfish in this pond and maybe that’s what I had? Thanks! Jack
I never thought of a Walleye. Who knows, very well could have been. I’m not really sure of what all is in this pond.
