Earthquake

The USGS posted a magnitude of 7. It shook the whole house but wasnt strong enough to break anything. Got woken up by an earthquake this morning at about 440am. nz which puts seismic data online in real time.

The GeoNet Project Monitoring geological hazards in New Zealand. The shaking increased in intensity and lasted for what felt like a long time thirty. 4 Christchurch NZ HERE.

I have been in only one earthquake before a minor shake in the UK where a mans leg was injured by a falling chimney. This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

So what do we know about the earthquake so far. I wondered where it came from. This was slightly different.

Natural disasters happen much more often in the world than we see reported in the news. Then I turned on the news at 6 am and discovered it was near.

The September 3 2010 South Island New Zealand earthquake occurred as a result of strikeslip faulting within the crust of the Pacific plate near the eastern foothills of the Southern Alps at the western edge of the Canterbury Plains.
