Fishing in Oahu, what kind of reel should I buy?

I’d like to get my Husband a new reel for Christmas but I’m not sure what he’d find affective. He already has a pole that has a 15 – 35 lb reel and another that has a 20 – 40 lb reel. Any suggestions?
My budget is around $100 to $150, and the only stores that I know sell reels is Wal-Mart, and on base .

Depends what kind of fishing he does

These are the main types of reels:

    1. SPINNING
    2. BAITCASTING
    3. FLY FISHING
    4. TROLLING, CENTERPIN

What’s he fish for? Freshwater fish? Saltwater fish? If he’s fishing for larger freshwater fish, such as catfish, I’d go with an Abu Garcia C4, 6600 model, paired up with a 8′ medium/heavy (or heavy) action Shakespeare Ugly Stik or Ugly Stik Tiger. This should cost around $150 or so. It would do well for most sizes of cats.

l don’t know what kind of gear they sell on base but odds are they will have better stuff than walmart. get him a light outfit for triggerfish and such. something maybe to handle 8 to 15 pound line. 7 or 8 feet long. with a nice spinning reel.
