all fishermans talk about is color selection… some say use bright sparkly ones wen its sunny, some say use dark plain colors wen sunny. some say use bright color sparkly wen gloomy, some say use dark plain colors wen gloomy…which way is it???

Every body has different opinions on this. Ask 10 regulars on here. 10 different responses. I have heard a lot of stuff such as spinnerbaits when windy or sunny, chartreuse and dark colors when muddy/stained water (Which are two different freakin colors. I told you, it’s weird.), and sparkly ones in clear water. This is how i go about it (Bass fishing)
Very muddy/stained water – Chartreuse, yellow, chartreuse sexy shad, white.
Slightly stained – Chartreuse, blacks, reds, purples.
Clear water – Blue, white, reds.
That’s just my personal opinion on bass fishin’ lures & the color selection for them.
Happy fishing.
The basic advice is that if the water is clear that natural colors look best. For instance white, grey, silver, silver/blue, and silver/green all resemble bait fish like shad. On murky conditions more obnoxious colors like chartruse seem to work better.
This advice is only a generality because fish activity is also a factor, an active fish may well bite anything. Wind and murky condition often hide the fishermen making fish braver. calm condition often will make fish easily spooked or the fishermen more easily detected.
Another factor is the odd man out theory…predator pick on the weak messed up forage first. so a lure that looks “odd” can sometimes be the key.
Based on water clarity,
I will use lighter colors and brighter flashes in murky waters. Clear water use darker like black, purple, blue. You can have a little bit of bright color on clear water but use dark
Now on sunny days,
definitely use something that flashes. Spinnerbaits, spinners, you get it right?
When its cloudy,
I will always use brighter colors weather its murky or clear. It can also depend on how cloudy it is. Maybe it isn’t even that cloudy?
I start out using the natural colors on clear lakes and brighter colors on stained/cloudy waters. But let the fish tell you for sure. That’s why lures come in so many colors and variations.
Personal experience has taught me that fish will bite whatever they want whenever they want, regardless of the weather or clarity of the water. I mean, there will be times when those sparkly lures are just reeling them in, whether it be sunny or cloudy, and then there will be those times when nothing seems to work no matter what different types of lures I try. Basically, those fish just won’t bite crap at all on those days (which seem to be a lot more recently)! I just go through everything in my tackle boxes, trying on those old lures and then the new ones, and sometimes, a natural color lure will work in one spot, but it won’t work anywhere else. It all just depends on the fish…
I’ve asked the same question, I didn’t get a consensus.
This is why, there is about 20,000 different colors for the average lure.
Most of the time, it’s what the fish is hardwired to recognize as food.
Trout like shiny, crappies like solid colors, bass are predators that will attack anything that gets to close to the nest, so long as they can see it and catfish like stinky stuff.
Mr. catfish, I think Lady has the most likely to be correct answer..I gave her a big thumbs up for it.
