Shakespeare has been a quality brand for many years. There are lots of newer manufacturers of reels, but Penn and Shakespeare have stood the test of time. Most old time fisherman have one, two or ten of these reels in their fishing inventories. You don’t necessarily need to buy a Shakespeare reel to replace the broke one. I’d probably take it apart to see what was wrong and try to fix it first. 0ne of the nice things about these reels is that they normally come with exploded view drawings so that you can figure out what the part number of the broken part is and order a replacement cheaply. It’s always good to know how to repair and maintain your reels.
