right in the back. i would use a size 6/0 sturgeon rig. just hook it right through the back and throw it out there. you could also go in through the eye and out the tail. it would kill it but it would give it a nice look and if anything hits it it will be hooked. be sure not to set the hook to soon or youll pull the bait right out of his mouth!
Hook it right below the dorsal fin, or hook it through the lips. Also, cut off the tips of its tail fins – it won’t swim as well, and will cause a lot of vibration in the water, plus there will be a little blood in the water to draw in predators.
hey man this is what i do. take the hook and run it through its eyes. i know i know that sounds mean but you are going to feed it to a fish that is about to devour it any ways. i hook it through the eyes and then i take a small knife and poke a hole through its back. fish have air pocket right up under there dorsal fin that helps them regulate the depths of water. popping that bubble will make them sink more. with the same knife cut the bluegill on its belly to make it bleed. with that set up the fish will be at the bottom flopping around and swimming around a little. catfish are not preditaoral fish they don’t wantto hunt there food. live bait is a good way to go after the ol kity kitty fish but the best way to get more bites are for the kitty kitty to not have to fight for it. the little cut in the bluegills stomach will let off the blood trail that the cats like. man i hope that helps you good luck and good fishin. oh yea..i wouldn’t use a great big ol bluegill just on that you would normally throw back if you were fishing for them. later

Check your states fishing regs. In many states useing bluegill for bait is illegal.
