How light is too light for bass fishing?

For general bass fishing I can’t imagine wanting to go any lighter than 8 lb mono, and even that is pushing it. Especially considering how structure oriented bass are. I’ve caught plenty on 6lb line though, I admit, but they were all pretty tiny.

too light is when your line breaks at an unacceptable rate as you catch fish.

wa i think ur trying to ask is about the line so there is no to heavy or to light really just throw on some 22 threw like 25 pound line on ur real and u can cat like 30 pound fish with that no problem

Two pound mono on an untralight trout rod is too light for bass. Unless ‘ya got the skills.

What happens if you’re fighting a trout on two pound line and a big bass winds up swallowing it? POP!

I’ve been using a fly rod/underspin reel combination for using live shad for bass and it can really handle decent bass. I mean, the little reel only has four-pound test on it, so I can’t really lay into the fish or horse it too much, but it works pretty well and it’s funner’n hell. Hearing that little drag scream is a hoot, too.

Bass Fishing, you can use a medium to medium heavy rod in bait casting or spinning, i would fish with a 14 or 17 or 20lb line for bait casting reel and a 12 lb line for spinning rod and reel, you can fish for bass with a UL rod and reel with 6 lb line, its lots of fun but you really need to know how to play your fish while your fishing them, Baas Fishing is so much fun, try different line weight for heavy cover or open water.

Have Fun Fishing.

that is going to depend on the style of fishing you do. when fishing texas rigged plastics, you need an outfit with enough backbone to run the hook through the lure and into the jaw of the fish. 8 or 10lb class, minimum.
this can be a bit difficult with an ultralight outfit used for trout and panfish. but a light to ultralight can be used effectively with live shad or small the jigs used for smallmouth.
my own personal opinion is that 6lb for live shad or for finesse tactics is about as light as l care to go. l use 8lb regularly for soft plastics and small topwaters, occasionally 10 for some larger, thicker plastics and larger topwaters.
as l have mentioned in other answers, my home lake is a clear water lake with a fairly clear shoreline. light gear is almost a requirement here to catch fish with any regularity.
