How much would it cost to repair a lower unit for a Bayliner Capri?
ByI have a 90′ Bayliner Capri. I know Bayliner is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to boats but this is my first boat so I figured it would be a good starter boat. The lower unit needs fixed and I was wondering what I was looking at dollar wise to fix it. The driveshaft and housing need repaired.

I guess it depends on where you take it. If you look in “Boating” magazine, you can buy new, or remanufactured outdrives for your motor. I’m guessing that Bayliner is using an Alpha 1 stern drive made by Mercury. To be honest, the cost of repairs is determined by what needs to be done. By the way, there’s nothing wrong with Bayliner boats. I’ve owned three of them, and the only problem is those crappy Mercury motors!

there is no way to estimate the cost unless the exact problem is known. a complete new lower unit can be purchased for $2-3000 . labor for a marine mechanic may be $85.00 per hour. if it is a mercruuiser you can fin d part prices at mercruiser.com.
