i know this sounds nutty since canned tuna is cooked but you read it right.i have a extreme fear of food poisoning so i dont trust other people who touch my food much.

Anyways, i wanted to know how to cook tuna fish until you can kill any listera or the other food poisoning that can apply (i forgot what the kind you get from fish and tuna from)

do you boil it in water? for how long?
canned tuna, not whole fish tuna
yes, i do have to cook it otherwise i will be paranoid the whole time.

i want to prevent scombroid poisoning

You cook tuna like a steak. grill it or pan fry it to a MEDIUM doneness and serve it immediately, Don’t overcook it or it will be tougher than shoe leather.

You really don’t have to worry about canned tuna… but if you must, just nuke it for 45 seconds on high – that will kill any bacteria. Or bake it to 145F. The thing is, cooking it won’t destroy any possible toxins in the tuna and THAT is the real danger with seafood.

You honestly don’t have to cook canned Tuna. You can add it to food kits that require cooking like Tuna Helper.

If you want to cook raw Tuna steaks from the Seafood Department at ur local Grocery Store then ask the Seafood Clerk. I love Tuna and sometimes I sear (medium rare) it it in Olive oil and Old Bay or whatever seasoning I want. You just cook it until it is no longer pink…which is about under five minutes tops (well done). I was told by a Sushi Chef that “fresh Tuna” is frozen at some seriously High degree and that degree literally KILLS any bacteria or parasite or whatever it is that ur afraid of.

Tuna steak that you can buy in a grocery store you treated just like you would like a beef steak. You can grill it on a barbecue or or sauté it in a frying pan and cook it to medium rare to medium season right it’s absolutely delicious. Tuna that is caned is cooked right in the can.
But a diet of a lot of tuna is not okay due to the high content of mercury in tuna. And if you don’t like people touching your food you need to learn to cook. Or get help for that insecurity.

use it in a tuna casserole and bake it!

In order to industrially can food its cooked at high temperature and for a long time for the very purpose of killing anything inside it. You may want to also look into buying pouches of tuna, that’s giving a dose of radiation as well. Of course dont buy or eat from a can thats expanded or dented. To cook tuna, you can microwave it for a couple minutes, covered, or heat it up in a sauce pan in its own juices til it boils then simmer it for say 15 minutes, it should be fine. This should reduce the chances of food poisoning except botulism, (but that usually effects different kinds of foods and would have caused the can to expand)
