As far as I can tell you it’s still the same old fishing pier. There were talks about fixing it since a hurricane destroyed the end of it years ago, but it’s still not fixed, but it’s enough to get out there and fish. (they have the broken area roped off)

Edit:
Ok, so I went home and there was news about a pier. It’s not like the guy listed below though.. it’s the MB Miller Pier that is being reconstructed. I’m not sure where he got his information. Here’s the local link with the CORRECT INFORMATION (we have two pier here.. one is smaller than the other.. not sure which is which)

It is being reconstructed. I work at the engineering company that has designed the new pier(Baskerville-Donovan, Inc). Here is most recent information I have on my desk…

The Dan Russell Pier groundbreaking at Pier Park in Panama City was held on Thursday, March 6, 2008. The project is almost entirely funded by FEMA – $8.1m as a result of Hurricane Ivan. This funding decision came about after discussions and reviews by the City and FEMA representatives in analyzing the repetitive loss history of the old pier.

The damaged structure was designed in 1977 without analysis of the storm capabilities of the Gulf of Mexico – a rigid design had sustained damage from nearly every storm that passed within a 100 miles of Panama City Beach. Repairs to the old pier required a crane, barge, and at least 12 months to repair.

The new design is elevated 26 feet above the Gulf waters, employs a sacrificial deck to lessen the storm forces upon the structure, and can be repaired without heavy equipment should a storm lift the panels out of their station.

The Pensacola fishing pier that we designed is similar.
