Just more of a vote: Who thinks that in Oregon you should be all wed to hunt cougar with dogs?

The deer population has dropped severly due to cougar kills, one cougar kills 2 to 4 deer a week here I think that dogs should be legalized just want some opinions…Right now you can hunt them w/out dogs but only about 50 are killed throughout Oregon a year because of how difficult hunting them is.

i live in oregon, in the coast mountain range and i hunt mountain lion, never got one. i share the same oppinion as you with the deer kills too high due to cougar. i am not aware of it being legal to use dogs right now, i remember when it was and i would like it to be that way again but under regulated permit only. if everyone could hunt cougars with dogs at any time we would have no cougars left. if the state could make a seperate cougar tag with limited numbers of tags issued just for hound hunting i think it could be successful.
What do you think? Answer below!
Postcranial skeleton of a wild dog

This is the almost complete postcranial skeleton of a wild dog which may represent the oldest evidence of wild dogs in South Africa. It is a large animal, approximately the size of a modern North American wolf. It shows interesting transitional features between regular canids (dogs) and the Cape Hunting Dog (Lycaon sp.) It has so far only been recovered from Gladysvale, one of the fossil sites in the Cradle of Humankind, and is estimated to be just less than 1-million years old.

I dont really have an oppinion on this one. Here in nebraska the game and parks (much to thier denial) introduced Mountain Lions in an effort to help control the deer population which is exploding. Despite thier efforts the mountain lions have been unsuccessful in controlling much of anything other than farm animals and pets. and are unlawful to hunt here.
I agree that in your state as long as it was a limited number type tag issued it would probably be ok.

I agree with your opinion. I grew up in Oregon but now live in western Washington. I only started hunting deer two years ago and have seen plenty of sign of cougar but fortunately I have not encountered one. I don’t know exactly what the populations are here of either species but I do believe in hound hunting in specific circumstances. Hounds were bred for specific reasons and should be encouraged to live up to the breed standards. Again only under strict rules and enforcement should dogs be used but it would be a possitive step in wildlife management.
