Lake Trout and Pike Fishing?
I will be renting a boat up in Old Forge, NY on 4th lake part of the Fulton chain lakes. I would love to do some lake trout fishing. It seems everybody uses down riggers for them but i wont be. the lake is very deep. Ive never fished for them before. Here is a contour map of the lake. http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/fish_marine_pdf/frthlk2map.pdf . I herd trolling spoons is best in deepest water. I was thinking of using a 3 way swivel with a weight at one end and spoon at the other. I will also be fishing 3rd lake for pike and muskie. Ive fished it once before and not one pike. Any tips on fishing for lake trout in 4th lake or pike in 3rd lake will be appreciated!!!!
If your not using a down rigger, then you may not have any luck catching any trout. In the lake I fish, the trout are already sitting around 40-60′ depth mark and with out a down rigger it would be a bit of a challenge to get down there.
