My beta fish wont eat?

By

I’ve had my beta fish for about 3 and a half years now, he is kinda getting old, but not totally, meaning that he is still active. He always eats his food, but this morning when I fed him, he didnt eat it. So, I changed his tank because I thought that that was the problem but he still isnt eating. He eats regular pellets. I feed him about 4 a day, and I’m very worried. Now he does live in a small tank, about the size of this one: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41MKmXx1g7L._SL500_AA280_.jpg
He loves it though, so please dont tell me to get a new one because I dont have the money, and he loves this tank anyway. I am so scared, please tell me what is wrong.

He’s certainly not getting old, three and a half years is nothing. I’ve personally kept a betta fish for eight years, their lifespan is anywhere from six to twelve years.

That looks like a 3-5g tank, which is suitable for a betta. Is it heated and filtered? That’s essential to keep your betta happy and healthy.

What are you feeding him, just pellets? He could be bored with it, all fish need a varied diet. Betta’s are primarily carnivorous, so he’ll need some protein such as blood worms, black worms, meal worms, brine shrimp, daphnia, etc. I recommend feeding him the pellets as a staple diet, but putting aside two to three days weekly to feed him the extra protein.

Fish need a varied diet and if they are being over fed or have a low nutrition diet then he may get constapated. Check to see how much poop is at the bottom of the tank. If it is less than usual he may be constapated. If he is tried to give him a shelled green pea that has been cooked. It works as a fishy laxitive. Hope this helps and good luck with your betta.

try feeding him bloodworms or brineshrimp.
