Surf Fishing South Florida?

By

I’m staying in Margate, Florida for two weeks and I want to try my luck at some surf fishing. Yesterday, I headed to pier, which I didn’t like at all. Everyone that I have asked always recommends some piers, but I enjoy surf fishing not pier fishing–to me it’s more relaxing and enjoyable. However, I’ve noticed that just about every beach around the area is full of people. So my question is are there any fishing spots in the area that aren’t crowded with non-fisherman. Also, are there any jetties or inlets in the area that are productive? Lastly, during this time of year what species should I be targeting? Thanks

oh wow! i used to live in margate! i’m from all around south florida, so that’s pretty cool. i moved to north florida though, now. anyways, yes, the beaches are usually always crowded around there. i’m pretty sure that if you want to do surf fishing instead of pier fishing (which is great) than you should try looking at places near coral springs, or something.

try pier fishing, it is really great.

I went to school just outside Tampa for 4 years and well i don’t know where Margate is…I guess thats bc I`m from NYC hahaha. But i used to surf fish almost every weekend…just go when there are now people, very early morning or in the evening. If theres a full moon or even a half moon you will have plenty of light to fish off almost any beach. Just remember to bring some bug spray because if there is no breeze and theres a lot of weeds at the high tide mark you`ll get your ankles bit up. Enjoy the mid days in Fl by surfing or enjoying the beach, its the early morning, evening and nice nights that were made to fish.

I too didnt enjoy fishing off of the crowded piers, reminds of those cartoons with 1,000 fishing boats in the little pond. When one guy catches a fish there will be 10 guys around you until someone else catches a fish.

Tight Lines!

Email me and I’ll tell you everything you need to know.

P.S. There aren’t any bugs this time of year and don’t be afraid to fish where people are . This is Florida. We all share the same beaches.

Spanish Macks are running right now. Go get on em.
