Want a new fishing reel!?

By

I’m planning on asking for a fishing reel for my b-day… i need one that is good, reliable, and will last me a pretty long time. I need suggestions on specific reels that are about 45-60 dollars.

Are you looking for a spincast, spinning, or baitcast reel? For a really good reel that will last a while, and for that price range, I’ll say the Pflueger President spinning reel (about 50-60 bucks). In that price range it won’t be easy to find quality gear, but there are a few in that range.

sea or freshwater

The way you asked, u must be a beginner.
Go to the fishing store and do some research by price, dollar for dollar.
Here are some suggestion of good brand name like Shimano Spirex, Abu Garcia Cardinal, Diawa Exceler, Pflueger President.

There are a lot of reels out there. You need to decide if you want a fresh or saltwater reel. Then you need to decide whether you want a spinning or baitcasting reel.

Freshwater:
Spinning-Shimano Sahara (i love this reel. i use it all the time for trout and bass)
Baitcasting- i use the shimano curado (around $200… sry i dont know any good cheaper ones)

Ebay – Garcia Mitchell 300 – a classic you can get some really niced used ones for various prices. They are VERY reliable and last forever. I’ve got one that has been going strong for more than two decades now and I’m hard on my reels.
Otherwise I’m onboard with Shimano or a used Penn (used so it was made in the USA)

You can’t go wrong with either an Abu Garcia or a Shimano.

Penn makes the worlds best spinning reels, Shimano, Daiwa and Shakespeare round out the top four. you will need to keep your rells clean and dust (sand and dirt) free by cleaning it every time you get home from a fishing excursion. You are only as good as your equipment and like a car reels need tune-ups I have a daiwa I bought 30 years ago and it is still used by someone along with me every year. I have three shimanos and they are my bait gig reels for differnet kinds of live bait I make and they are high speed to get the little suckers on the deck bfore they shake off.
