2

Great video man think you!Love the video’s and the show please keep it up.

3

This video is the best one for my the 3rd grade class in terms of water purifing.

4

Great vid dave! You confirmed my own research to be correct but I had no idea with the high altitude difference. Good value!

5

Dave what can you tell us about charcoal filtration?

6

dude…werent you on duel survival?!!!!! i swear i reconised you when i watched the show….

7

Thanks for the info. It’s pretty confusing trying to find the right info online. E-How was saying to boil your water for ten minutes! What would you even have left to drink after that? Saw your improvised filter video as well, and will try next time I’m out. Have a good one.

8

Everytime I boil water in a fire it smells and tastes like smoke. I’ve tried covering it with tin foil but I think it traps the smoke inside and makes it worse. Any tips???

9

I’ve heard you can get water if you go by a pond or lake and go far enough inland, dig a hole till you see water in the hole, let it set till the mud/sediment and you can scoop that water to use to drink because its been filtered through the ground, now this is what i’ve heard but its always good to boil that water just incase.

10

should i filter the water before i boil or filter after i boil?

11

so if i want to drink water out of that stream, i filter it, then boil it, is thatt it? how can that get rid of DTT, etc

@TheRealLogwad As long as the water is clear and you’ve use a cloth to fiter out the chunks, UV is completely ok. In fact it is the main thing used in commercial water purification these days.

I’ve heard that cryptosporidium and giardia can be resistant to iodine or chlorine. Either case I always feel better with a pump filter.

@Origin305
Using UV to sterilize water is interesting, but I would wait a few years to let the technology mature. It is also expensive, and requires batteries.

You still need to filter water if you use a steripen, as little buggers can hide in a soil particle or tiny bits of plant/animal matter. Furthermore, the UV light loses effectiveness with distance, and can be hazardous with some containers if they are too big or proportioned wrong.

excellent information, excellent video… my understanding (in my area) is that a naturial spring is safe to drink from as far as i’ve read , aperently the plants sand and soil are sposto do an excellent job at ‘filtering’ and clearly there would be no dead carcases in it / bactria. can you clue me in more on drinking from a spring?

Im a certified water treatment technician up in Canada with 20 years of experience and Ill like to say that the infos in this video are very good and accurate. Boiling for 1 minute is the safest way to disinfect water. If no boiling is possible, chlorine dioxide is the best option even though it might not kill cryptospodirium in turbid water, but is way better then nothing.

17

thanks great info!!!

18

u seem like a really down to earth guy! i hope you get famous! ive seen some purification methods with charcoal. would you recommend this?

19

u seem to be a really down to earth guy. i hope u get famous bro!

@wildernessoutfitters
true but technology like UV light purifiers is just as good as boiling and takes only seconds and no need to let water cool. Search for the Steripen

21

LOL it cure it by killing ya

22

@bigsammieking sounds like the answer to obesity lol

23

Got Giardia in the AK. You do not want to ever get this.
Lost 35 lbs. . . . . Think of the worst diarrhea you’ve ever had for days and days and days.

24

just curious if you have any info on purifing with a steripen??

25

yes, because it permits higher water temperatures. You need to seal your pressure cooker with a secure stopper or clamp. There usually needs to be an over-pressure release valve to prevent the cooker from blowing the stopper or rupturing. Definitely recommended for high altitude excursions.
