in the fall i have good luck with rattle traps and mid to deep diving crank baits. i tend to fish along drop offs or transitions at that time of the year. but you never know one morning a few years back i was pike fishing and killed the bass with a floating jerk bait. i was surprised because it was a cold windy day and to boot it started snowing. every one has a certain way they like to fish and just because it works for me doesn’t mean it will work for you, you just have to experiment a little.

For me, I find bass are one of the easier fish to catch…because they will go after just about anything. I use the same assortment of lures year round for bass…just keep trying different stuff until you find what works. I like to use the texas rig

Now is the time of year to use your shad imitators. The shad are bunched up and can be found in the backs of creeks. Look for shad and you will find the bass. Throw spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits, and diving crankbaits in shad colors. If you can fish with a little cloud cover or wind the bass will be even more aggressive. Try to fish creeks that have wind blowing into them, start at the back and work your way out. Anywhere you find baitfish, you’ll find bass this time of year. Tight Lines.

Try something on the surface or shallow diver.

Tiny or baby torpedo, bright colors.

Rapala: skitter pop or shallow diver, firetiger in color.

Best of luck

Use bigger lures in the fall. Jigs, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, and topwaters work well. But more important than the lure choice is finding the fish.

When I fish in Wisconsin this time of year, I vary my approach between dark tube bait and bright spinner bait.

I find that if one isn’t working, the other often is.
