Which fishing rod & reel combo is best for beginners?

and what kind of bait is best for what, i went fishin with my friends and all i used were the shiny worms and i caught three bass with just that??
id go to walmart and get a shakespeare ugly stick combo or some other kind of shakespeare combo. i got a nice combo for 40 dollars came with some lures rod/reel/ and a small tacklebox. ive used the rod for about a year now its caught a few keeper sturgeons so it was not a waste of money
I agree with Chris about getting an ugly stick. You can also get a cheap zebco outfit but you get what you pay for with them.
You get what you pay for also with an ugly Stik from Wal-mart.
A two-sectional, Shakespeare Ugly Stik has worked well for me for both freshwater and salt water fishing.
Get a 6’0” ugly stik.
