I didnt say freakin fruits i said bananas is it like bad luck or sumthin..and im talking abvout fishing boats…
people make it a big deal it might be superstition does anyone know the facts or stories

They attract insects, especially mosquitoes. But not so seriously, because then it would be a banana boat.

This same question was asked 3 months ago and got some good answers. Type in “bananas and fishing” in the search for questions box and click on the question. It’s just a superstition whose origin is lost but still makes for fun when fishing. But there are some charter captains who take it very seriously.

Its an old myth that bananas can cause the fish to stop feeding because of their scent, to be honest its never been proved and if i want to eat one i will, its never affected my catch rate in all the years ive been fishing.

I’ve seen this while watching the pro circuit. Certain professionals are very superstitious. The banana is supposed to be bad luck, sorry don’t know the origin. The pros will try to find ways to hide them on a comrades boat, such as sticking it in the livewell or rod storage compartment when they aren’t looking. I’ve seen it quite a bit on Bassmasters on ESPN. I think it kinda adds some light humor to what is otherwise a serious competition also.

It’s a fact that Bananas on a fishing boat are “Bad Luck”.
The tale originated when early day (17th & 18th Century) ships that were carrying bananas, ran aground, lost crew members, or became lost at sea. All indicators are that bananas sheltered the deadly tarantula spider, bugs, and snakes.

i have 2 boats, that have a smooth floor & there is a good reason that i don’t want a bananna on ( in ) my boats
if you have NEVER stepped on a banana skin or piece of bananna, that was dropped on a smooth surface, it is doubtful that you would understand the reason

Bananas are considered BAD LUCK on a fishing boat.
Ancient opinions say that bananas emit a gas that will rot the hull of wooden ships. Others say that bananas attracted poisonous spiders (tarantulas, I think) and that sailors would die in their sleep when being bitten.
Even though we know that these are untrue, most anglers will not take bananas on a boat NOR do captains allow bananas on their boat.
Why tempt fate?
