Why won’t the dashboard backlights won’t work on my 1989 Chevy Cavalier?

By

I have a 4 cylinder manual transmission 1989 Chevy Cavalier and the gauge lights on the dashboard will not light up. I’m not able to see how fast I am going on the speedometer or check how much gas I have at night unless I shine my cell phone on the dashboard (lol). The Temp, Volts, Service Eng Soon lights still come on when I turn on the car but that’s about it. It also does not have an RPM gauge if that helps at all. Is it the fuses? If so, I’m not sure exactly where to put the 5 watt fuse on the fuse box because I don’t have the owners manual. Or is there anything else that I can do to get the lights working again? Thank you in advance.

5 watt?…you mean 5 amp…..why not check all your fuse,s…you just might find another burned out fuse….fuse tester,s are available at your local auto part,s supplier…as well as new fuse,s….good luck!

Sounds like a fuse issue. You might be able to find a manual online. If not, go to a Chevy dealership or a mechanic. If you have the fuse, they probably will help you out for free.
