will plastic/rubbery fishing worms affect a saltwater tank?
Byi was thinking of making my own fake sea anemone by bundling plastic/rubbery fishing worms together. does anyone know if the fishing tackle will affect a 20 gal & 55 gal saltwater tank. i’ve been soaking the plastic worms in a bucket of hot water.

You never know what they put in lures. It’s possible it could leach chemicals into the water. But i suppose if you boil it for awhile it would clean it well enough to use in an aquarium.

Lures are made to attract fish in many different ways. As said above, you dont know whats in it. Soaking it will only affect whats on the outside, and it may or may not come off. But what is it actually made of? Im sure theres fake sea anemone decorations that are already made of stuff thats proven to be safe in aquariums. Id recommend one of them.

many artificial fish baits have an attractant embedded in them that may leach out in your tank,,, also concider, the materials may break down in your tank and fall to pieces, fish may eat them ,,, consider what a nice yummy chunk of silicone will do to the digestive tract of a probably expensive specimen,,, not wanting to dump on your creative endeavor, it’s a very novel idea,,,
