Sounds like a great outfit for you. I don’t understand how a medium-heavy is overkill for bass, but whatever. Apparently some people don’t use heavy gear in thick vegetation or toss big swimbaits. If you’re wanting an Ugly Stik for bass, I would suggest the Lite version. They seem to be just a tad more sensitive than the regular black Ugly Stiks with the foam handles and yellow wrapping.
i like the grand masters answer. my only gripe about ugly stiks is a lack of sensitivity. but unless you are fishing soft plastics or jigs you wouldnt notice much difference. if you are a live bait guy ( and it sounds like you are) then you got the right combo

Sure…a little heavy for bass, but good for big carp or catfish.

It’d work fine for carp and catfish, though.
